A village that runs its own show
Rockville Centre has been an incorporated village since 1893, and it still runs its own electric utility — one of only a handful of villages on Long Island that do. It's home to Mercy Hospital, Molloy University and St. Agnes Cathedral, the seat of the Diocese of Rockville Centre, and the downtown around the LIRR station is known for its restaurants. Because it's a village, permits for work like a new garage door go through the Village of Rockville Centre Building Department, not the Town of Hempstead.
Bigger homes, heavier doors
Many Rockville Centre homes are larger colonials and Tudors, with two-car garages, double doors, or wood and carriage-style doors that weigh far more than a basic single steel door. That changes the job:
- Springs are sized to the door's weight. A heavy door needs heavier springs, and when one breaks the other is usually close behind. Replacing them as a pair keeps the door balanced.
- Two doors means two of everything — openers, remotes, sensors. It's worth setting both up on one keypad or one phone app.
- A yearly tune-up for each door (from $125) catches worn springs, frayed cables and loose hardware early.
- Wood doors look the part but need regular sealing or painting to keep moisture out of the panels.
- Older detached garages at the end of the driveway often still have extension springs along the side tracks. Those need a safety cable running through each spring, so a broken spring can't whip loose.

Opener installation for a two-door garage
- Belt drive if there's a bedroom or home office over the garage — much quieter than chain.
- Wall-mount (LiftMaster 8500W / 98022) for a high ceiling, or when you want the ceiling clear. It mounts beside the door on the torsion bar, so it needs torsion springs.
- Wi-Fi so you can check both doors from your phone, with a camera model if you want to see inside the garage.
- Battery backup so the doors still open when the power is out.
Openers we supply come with our 3-year warranty plus the manufacturer's own warranty, which you activate by registering the opener with the manufacturer. Before he leaves, Michael programs your remotes and car, and shows you how to open each door by hand.
Is a high-end door worth repairing?
Usually, yes. Springs, cables, rollers and openers can be replaced without touching the door, and a damaged section often can be too (from $250) if the model is still made. A new door makes sense when several sections are damaged, the wood is rotting, or you want an insulated door for a garage gym or workshop.
Call first — many problems end on the phone
When you call, Abby goes through the usual suspects with you: the lock button on the wall control, the sensor lights by the floor, a tripped GFCI outlet, the manual lock on the door, and the remote battery. In a house with two openers, it's also worth checking which wall button runs which door. If it's a spring, a cable or anything under tension, that's a job for Michael.
Who comes, and when
We're a husband-and-wife business with 27 years of experience. Abby runs the office and the phone; Michael comes out himself and gives you the price in writing before he starts. Most repairs are same-day, and emergency calls are handled at night and on Sundays too. Many of our customers found us after trying another company, and stayed for the personal service.
We're closed on Shabbat and Jewish holidays; on Fridays we close 2 hours before Shabbat. After Shabbat and holidays end, we answer the phone and handle urgent calls when a technician is available.

Rockville Centre garage door questions
How much does garage door spring repair cost for a double door in Rockville Centre?
A pair of torsion springs starts at $475, and high-cycle springs for heavy, busy doors start at $525 a pair. Very heavy wood doors may need larger springs; you get the exact price in writing first.
Do I need a village permit to replace my garage door in Rockville Centre?
Ask the Village of Rockville Centre Building Department before you start, especially if the size of the opening will change. Rockville Centre is an incorporated village, so its own Building Department handles this, not the Town of Hempstead.
Can one app control both of my garage doors?
Yes. Wi-Fi LiftMaster openers let you check and open both doors from one phone, and a MyQ smart hub (from $145) can add an older compatible opener to the same app.
Can you install a wall-mount opener in my garage?
Usually, if the door has torsion springs and there's an outlet and room beside the door. Installed wall-mount openers start at $875.
My detached garage has springs along the sides. Is that safe?
Those are extension springs. They need a safety cable through each spring; if yours don't have one, we can add them, or convert the door to torsion springs (from $575).
Can you replace one damaged section of my carriage-house door?
Often, if the manufacturer still makes that model. Sections start at $250 each. If it's no longer available, we'll go over your options before any work starts.
